My glass art is made primarily off old glass. I don’t say
recycled because it’s not recycled yet, I am recycling it.
Much of the large sheet glass material is collected from old compromised,
no longer sealed, thermal pane windows. Other sources may be windshields,
old single pane windows, wine & beer bottles, wine glasses
old glass bottles (best colors). Working this type of glass is
very messy, lots of debris , dangerous, and much sharp breakage.
Old glass is moody, unpredictable and sometimes very difficult
but like any thing with that description, when it works it is
fantastic. Old glass lends and organic hue and natural feel to
each piece that many specific art and new glasses lack. It is
a different and unique beauty.
As glass has appealed to all since the Egyptians,
so now it appeals to our need for shape in the modern space. Some
people can see the problem with your computer, some can see how
to build a house or fix your plumbing. I can see what you can
put in your house with my glass that would make a wall or table
space beautiful. I can’t sit in any space without picturing
what I could do with it. Glass found me way to do that.
But, people are truly the designers. You know
what colors you like, what shapes you want and sometimes where
you want something. From solid object to bent shapes, glass can
compliment any space.
By fitting what I see in the glass to it’s
environment, the accent is found.
My art glass absorbs what you want, mixes with a little kiln creativity
and becomes a completely personal piece.
